The mediator is specially trained, neutral and fair, and not an advocate for either spouse. Decisions are not made for the couple but by the couple with the mediator’s help, guidance and knowledge.
Couples are helped to:
- Construct a sound separation agreement to handle both immediate and long range concerns.
- Separate their parental role, which is continuing, from their spousal role which is ending.
- Focus on relevant issues and identify options and their consequences without becoming emotionally sidetracked.
- Address the needs of all family members while working toward a reasonable, mutually satisfactory, and fair agreement, with no losers.
- Engage in a dignified process, enabling each spouse to move on with their respective lives in a stronger,
healthier way.
- Save considerable expense that would ordinarily be incurred by the usual litigation process for separation and divorce where lawyer’s fees can potentially spiral out of control.
